Space Octopus

Description

The Space Octopus is a graceful, majestic inhabitant of interplanetary space. This many-tentacled behemoth typically eats several times its body weight every day, and its primary source of food is the Dancing Lobster. The Space Octopus does not have any predators, and is, in fact, immortal.

Use of Space

I created a sense of space with the Purple Eels by placing them throughout the picture with altered sizes, to establish distance, and shading or darkening them to establish light direction

How It Represents Me

The Space Octopus shares many characteristics with myself. We both love to eat lobsters, first of all. We both also enjoy the same genres of music, such as dubstep. Finally, we are both citizens of the United States.

Light Direction

On Balance and Symmetry

Symmetry is a characteristic of artistic works where a "mirror image" is used, such that an image on one side of an imaginary line, an "axis of symmetry" is the same as the image on the other side of said line. This characteristic was used in my kaleidoscope by duplicating the left side of the image, and vertically reflecting it to the right side. Balance was also created between the center area of the image and the corners/ area around the center. This created a sense that the entangled knots were radiating from the center. A balance of color was also used in the roughly equal use of both white and black.
